Perfect Performance Brings Double Win at Donington Park

16th April: It was a perfect performance and points scoring weekend for Belfast man Charlie Eastwood who secured double pole and race wins in the 2017 Carrera Cup GB championship at Donington Park.

The 2016 Rookie Champions and BRDC Rising Star programme member now leads the Drivers’ Championship as the series heads to Oulton Park circuit, Cheshire, for rounds five and six on 20th – 21st May.

Results: #28 Charlie Eastwood

Qualifying – Round 3 P1 – fastest lap 1:06.859 minute (106.56 MPH)
Qualifying – Round 4 P1 – second fastest lap 1:06.871 minute (106.54 MPH)
Round 3 - Result P1 - 23 laps, best lap time 1:07.803 minute
Round 4 – Result P1 - 24 laps, best lap time 1:07.860 minute

Charlie Eastwood commented:

“We couldn’t have asked for much better; double pole and win in both races, fantastic. We got off to great starts and kept out in front for both races, but today, when I thought the race could be plain sailing with three or four laps to go, I saw the back markers defending and backed off as I didn’t want to get involved. Then on the last lap when two cars crashed on the first corner, I went just on the grass to pass them and that kept me on my toes!

“We need to stay up in the championship leading position now; we knew after qualifying that this weekend would be a great opportunity to make a bit of a gap and get the most points possible, and we did that. It was perfect from start to finish, so hopefully we can continue this form throughout the season.”
