Valuable Points from Difficult Weekend at Oulton Park

21st May 2017:

Charlie secured second row starting grid positions in qualifying for rounds five and six of the 2017 Carrera Cup GB championship on Saturday at Oulton Park Circuit in Cheshire.

A dramatic, multi-car incident at the beginning of race five in the afternoon forced a restart during which the rear of the Belfast man’s #28 Redline Racing Porsche was tagged sending him in to a spin. Charlie re-joined the race in twelfth and made a meteoric charge to take the chequered flag in P7.

Round six on Sunday afternoon was a championship points ‘damage limitation’ exercise with Charlie defending boldly to take the third placed podium position at the end of the shortened, 12 laps race.

The 2016 Rookie Champion and BRDC Rising Star programme member now sits in second place in the Drivers’ Championship as the series looks towards the next event at the iconic Le Mans Circuit in the Sarthe region of France for round seven on 17-18 June.

Charlie Eastwood comments:

“The race weekend at Oulton Park was hard for us. We had good Friday practice sessions, but in qualifying it rained just before the start and we’d had no wet practice, so we just missed a little bit of time. We went in to race one yesterday, got passed the big crash in the first start, but then in the second start unfortunately somebody turned in on us, spun us round and I couldn’t do anything about it. Luckily we got back up to seventh in the end for some valuable points.

“Today, again we had a good start off the line, but we were clipped in to turn one and again down the hill, which is frustrating and a bit of desperation on the driver’s part, but you can’t really do anything about that so at least we’ve come away with some decent podium points and now we are just looking forward to Le Mans. Like every year in motorsport you’ve one weekend that you need to put behind you and hopefully this will be ours.”
