Win at Snetterton Affords Charlie Carrera Cup GB Lead

Charlie secured double pole position in qualifying for rounds eight and nine of the 2017 Carrera Cup GB championship on Saturday at Snetterton Circuit in Norfolk.

The Belfast man and his #28 Redline Racing Team Porsche drove a faultless lights to flag first race (round 8) on Sunday morning to clinch not only the win, but leap in to the 2017 Championship lead.

In the closing laps of round nine on Sunday afternoon Charlie was caught out by an uncharacteristic lock up of his rear wheels and had to defend position fiercely to secure the second placed podium trophy at the end of the 14 laps contest.

Scoring only two points shy of the weekend’s maximum available, Charlie Eastwood now leads the Carrera Cup GB Drivers’ Championship as the series heads north to Knockhill in Fife, Scotland in two weeks’ time for rounds 10/11 on 12-13 August.

Charlie Eastwood comments:

“Race one went well for us. It was quite slippery as we had a lot of rain overnight, so for the first two or three laps we couldn’t push the car as much as we’d like. Once we got grip in the car and on the track we could start to push on and got our gap and then, just after the safety car, we had to build up the gap again, but we managed to control the race right up until the end. It was half of what we needed to do this weekend and the win gave the team a great boost as we took the Championship lead.

The second race was going really well until lap 11, when I just hit down in to third on turn two and the rears just absolutely locked solid. We seemed to be able to maintain the gap quite well until then, but the tyres went off slightly and we just didn’t have enough to push hard with three laps to go. It is frustrating not to achieve maximum points this weekend, but we’ve come out with the Championship lead so hopefully we can keep it until the end of the season.”
