Charlie Eastwood takes consecutive WEC wins with victory in Shanghai
Belfast born racer Charlie Eastwood outclassed the LMGTE AM field to secure victory at the 4hr of Shanghai and take back to back 2019-20 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) wins to lead of the drivers championship.
Driving the #90 Aston Martin Vantage AMR for TF Sport, Charlie and his teammates Salih Yoluc and Jonathan Adam were able to overcome the challenges of nearest rivals #57 Team Project 1 Porsche 911 and the #98 Aston Martin Racing team to celebrate a commanding victory and take maximum points.
Charlie describes securing another WEC win: “To be able to take victory in Shanghai and make it back to back class wins is amazing. The car felt strong and we had very little tyre degradation allowing the team to consistently push throughout the race. When I jumped in the car for the final hour, I felt very comfortable and I was able to extend our lead.”
Driving the final stint, Charlie consistently lapped faster than his closest rivals, setting the teams fastest lap of a 2.02.744 on lap 85. The Aston Martin driver looked in supreme control and even with a quick ‘splash and dash’ for fuel he was able to cross the line 16 seconds ahead of the Project 1 Porsche.
“Although we have only had three races with the new car, I believe the team has the capability to challenge for victory in every race. To be able to dominate at two very different circuits requires a very strong package with the ability to adapt.” added Charlie.
Charlie’s next race is the WEC 8 Hours of Bahrain on the 14 December 2019.
